Is it worth watching Megamind rules? I know I’m not the target, but I’m curious yet also really really nervous. I know it’s for a younger audience but I’m still very on the fence and nervous. Also, love your writing
Omg, thank you, and thank you also for asking and yes yes yes 100% it's worth watching! It got crapped on by a bunch of people who decided based on the trailer alone that it was going to suck (how fun, a movie about a guy who everyone decided would be bad despite not knowing him got a spinoff show that...everyone decided would be bad despite not watching it, lol), so there's a lot of hate out there for it. I'm assuming you've caught wind of some of that, and that's why you're nervous? But for what it's worth, I was staring at the screen like :D basically the whole time.
Some more specific notes below the cut, but the tl;dr is please do give it a chance, if you can find the time. A G-rated direct-to-stream spinoff show wasn't what a lot of people were hoping for, and there were some folks who watched it and didn't care for it. But from a writing and storytelling standpoint, I think it is genuinely good! If you go in expecting a cute kids' show with some silly jokes and social misfits finding their way forward together, and keep an open mind, I don't think you'll be disappointed-- in fact I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
Just a gentle heads-up on some stuff because I'm not sure what you've heard about the show yet, and I'm also not sure what your existing expectations are!
The show was given a shoestring budget and not a lot of time to go from writers' room to final product, and yes, there are places where you can tell. But that was always going to be the case-- Dreamworks was absolutely not going to be spending big bucks on a franchise they've barely even acknowledged in more than a decade-- and it wasn't the fault of the people making the show. And even with the low budget, I think the animation is still genuinely solid, especially in later episodes! The people who worked on it really did a great job with what they were given.
And the writing!!! Holy shit!!! My skin is clear my crops are watered etc. The original writers handled this project and they absolutely delivered. Megamind & Roxanne's whole Thing progresses and grows and blooms in a really sweet and realistic way. Roxanne & Chum have a great dynamic. (Minion's name needed to be changed for legal reasons, but the writers worked that into the show and I gotta say, as a trans person, it was really lovely to see everyone else respond to "actually, because of [spoiler], my name is Chum now" with "oh! cool okay" and just keep rolling. I love that that was modeled for kids.) The character development is tangible; we get to watch Megamind really grow as a person and come into his own over the course of the series. And the new characters are really fun-- I genuinely enjoyed Keiko and everyone else.
Even if you never watch it (it's OK if you don't!) please just know: this was not a cash grab; Megamind Rules was made by people who truly cared about this world and these characters.
It's also worth noting that Megamind Versus the Doom Syndicate (the extended pilot) recaps a bunch of the same lessons as the original movie, so it can feel a little bit "...didn't we JUST do this??" but I'm pretty sure that was because Dreamworks didn't want to rely on kids to watch a 13 year old movie rated PG instead of G in order to get context. So like, I get it. And it's still cute! But it did mean I was nervous about what the rest of the series would be like until I was laughing my ass off halfway through Episode 2. If you're nervous, you can probably skip MMVtDS.
But yeah. I truly do think Megamind Rules is worth watching, and I've been so sad about the reception it received. Thank you so much for asking about it, and not just deciding it sucks and moving on. I appreciate you.
#megamind rules#megamind#AND THE FISH JOKES#OH MY GOD SO MANY FISH JOKES#worth it for the fish jokes alone really#also the executive producer voices one of the brainbots and you can tell he is having SO much fun lmao#it's ridiculous#anyway if kids' shows aren't your thing and you don't mind being a little confused#you CAN just watch the last 3 episodes#i would also recommend Episodes 7 and 8 and 9#and Episode 11 before watching the last 3#i feel like those ones are the most plot-heavy#but also if you get started and you're like ''noooo ahg it's not for me'' that's ok#some folks honestly didn't care for it; that's gonna be true of anything#personally i loved it#megamind rules exists and you can't stop it or me#askbasket#i've actually been meaning to watch it again#i think i'll start doing that now#thank you nonny!

Things I’ve noticed and/or thoroughly enjoyed seeing from watching Megamind eight times over the course of six days
Megamind has such a crush on Roxanne before he even steals Bernard’s identity
Hal gearshifts in midair while saving Roxanne during the midnight flight
Roxanne looks like she genuinely feels bad after slamming the breaks on the way to the school house
Megamind is incredibly good at hiding giant, smoke-producing blimps in midair (invisibility cloak???)
You can see projector lines in the observatory from a brain-bot
Minion and Megamind consistently switch back and forth between older sibling and younger sibling roles
There is a brainbot with lipstick and eyelashes
The way Megamind comments on Roxanne’s hair during their date gives me actual butterflies
Hans Zimmer wrote the MOST AMAZING LOVE THEME FOR ROXANNE AND MEGAMIND AND I WILL NEVER GET OVER IT
Roxanne’s absolutely dumbfounded look when Megamind compliments Metro Man’s music
You can hear so much glass shattering every time Tighten destroys a building
Crazy Train is clearly Minion’s favorite song and I respect it entirely
The way Megamind calls Roxanne’s name when he saves her from the alligator room is weirdly sweet (maybe I just have a crush on him)
Minion has a little antenna on his back that I assume lets him control the suit
Megamind immediately steps to protect Roxanne when Tighten sees past his disguise
Is the warden a father figure for Megamind??? Like obviously he’s a crap father if that’s the case but like, is he???
Roxanne runs up behind Tighten with a street sign in hand to defend Megamind while he’s crawling to the invisible car
Megamind’s hurt look when Bernard calls the dehydration gun “cheap”
When Roxanne rejects him, Megamind winces with every accusation (and I genuinely feel so bad for both of them like ow)
I love Megamind’s and Tighten’s themes, they’re both reminiscent of lullabies, which is a fun choice for the villain characters
Roxanne has a picture of the design for the diffuser gun hanging in her apartment when she’s trying to figure out Megamind’s plan
Megamind still has his custom baby seal leather boots on during the Tighten fight
Have I mentioned the music enough? Because I’m trying to figure out some of the themes by ear on the piano and the music is decently complex. It’s not insane, but it’s tougher to figure out than a lot of music.
“Lyrical Magic” is credited as an actual song in the end credits
Megamind’s face when Roxanne admits to looking back is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen and the way the camera follows his face is really well done
The use of lighting changes for ambiance or passage of time can be really subtle, but honestly just amazing
My dad thinks I will get sick of this movie pretty soon, seeing as I’ve watched it once or twice a day whenever possible, and he is seriously underestimating just how much I am in love with Megamind. My mom has given up calling me weird. I’m also using my uncle and aunt’s peacock account to watch it over and over, and if they’ve noticed how often I watch it they haven’t said anything.
Next week I try to beat my friend’s record of watching her comfort movie twenty times in one week.
#I am normal about Megamind#entirely average about him#basic if you will#calm cool and collected#megamind#roxanne ritchi#minion megamind

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Megamind
So surprisingly, this is one movie I've never actually seen before outside of all of the memes and all of the love people tend to shower upon it, and after finally seeing it for myself... yeah, I totally get why. Megamind is based as fuck, ya'll.
We focus on, of course, Megamind, who is a supervillain who terrorizes Metro City and is opposed by the heroic Metro Man. At least until Megamind seems to successfully defeat Metro Man, leaving Metro City in his hands and quickly leading him into wanting more than just power alone. While in disguse, he ends up striking up a romance with Roxanne, a local reporter, and at the same time, he ends up creating a new opponent for him to fight to curb his growing boredum in the nerdy (incel) Hal, who quickly becomes more of a villain himself than the hero Megamind wanted him to be. So of course, this leads to all sorts of chaos and hijinks, and while you might think that plot sounds too complicated for its own good, I can surprisingly say, it really isn't!
Yeah, all of the moving pieces here work so well together, interwoven into a really compelling story with some pretty solid emotions and some great character moments. It helps that our cast itself is fantastic; Megamind is such a good lead, he's a genuis, but he's also totally socially graceless and is an absolute lovable goober as a result, one who comes to realize that he can be more than the "villain" stereotype he believed he was forced into being from childhood. Roxanne is also a really good leading lady; she's funny and snarky and has really great chemistry with Megamind throughout.
Metro Man doesn't get a ton of screentime, but he's a great parody on the usual superhero tropes, while Minion is the perfect right hand man (fish?) to Megamind in every way. Even our villain, Hal, or as he comes to be called, Titan, works really well here; he's the kind of asshole who just doesn't take no for an answer that we can all justifably hate (but he's also hilarious in his own right).
The animation is also really great here. I find that Dreamworks movies tend to look their best when their characters are highly stylized, and that's what we get a lot of here. We get a lot of really fun action scenes, both in terms of fighting and Megamind's tech. and strangely enough the special effects here (things like fabric and particle effects, etc) really stood out to me, they were all super well done.
The humor is absolutely fantastic here. It's not as adult as some of Dreamworks earlier days, but instead it relies more on who these characters are and how they interact with each other. I think one of my favorite running gags is Megamind obliviously mispronouncing various words (like school and Metro City). There's a bunch of small bits just like that throughout the movie, and they're all so fast paced and well delivered by a really stellar voice cast. The emotions also strike a cord here; there aren't any tearjerker moments, but you really do feel Megamind's growth here as he falls in love and eventually decides to become the hero he never thought he could be.
So yeah, I really enjoyed this one! It's a shame it took me this long to watch it, because it was super enjoyable all the way through. Also amazing that it never really spawned any legit sequels, but I heard its getting a show next year, so idk. I am probs not gonna watch it. Movie good tho, give it a watch if ya haven't.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Verdict: There is no Queen of England

Next Review (Kung Fu Panda 2)

Ooo, lol, looks like someone got their knickers twisted so hard they wrote a whole essay about how they're categorically correct about an ultimately subjective matter. That's always a winning approach.
Please do not try to "educate" me the difference between writers and executive producers in animation. I have an animation degree. I'm not a child.
I follow both Brent and Alan on Twitter and have been for like 3 years now. I have been watching their updates since the announcement of the show 2 years ago. I have pics of them celebrating finishing up the writing. Here's proof that they wrote it, including screenshots of the IMDb Brent had linked on his Twitter.
I said this is not what they consider THE sequel. Obviously it is *a* sequel. I'm saying people should not be treating it like Megamind 2 when it is a pilot for the TV show. They want a real theatrical sequel.
This is a random screenshot I felt was important
I think this person better put what I meant about not as many people would care this much if it wasn't on streaming:
Megamind was an arrogant little egomaniac for the entirety of the first movie. Not sure how you missed that. Roxanne appears dissatisfied with her place in life from her recording at the Metro Man Museum with Hal onward, and does her level best to become the hero her city needs because no one else is going to stand up and do it - not sure how you missed that, either, but her whole character arc is about stepping up to the plate to do good. Well done reducing her to a single career point and then discarding her. I wasn't surprised to see her frustrations with going right back to reporting. That was a headspace that made a ton of sense for her. It was set up incredibly well.
And Megamind himself says, "some days, it felt like it was just me and Minion against the world," so you might think I agree with you there - but in fact I'm going to point out the SOME days, it FELT LIKE. There is no reason to believe that he never had any other professional associates between the time he left the schoolhouse and the time we see him as an established supervillain. In fact, I can and will argue that there's room to interpret *he himself* saying he wasn't always flying solo. It's up to interpretation - but it's there.
And no, Roxanne and Megamind are not and should not be "quasi-dating" unless you want to look past the enormous Bernard lie. Which I can't say I'm surprised you did, since Roxanne doesn't matter as anything other than Reporter Romantic Interest, apparently. The end of the original implies they have *potential.*
But I'm not trying to convince you. At the end of the day, you didn't enjoy something you hoped to enjoy. You missed a few key points about the original, so the pilot of the show didn't line up with some of your expectations and it pissed you off. That's a shame. But instead of offering some grace and recognizing it for what it is - a movie designed for a younger demographic than the original, the first ounce of love Dreamworks has shown this IP since its initial release more than a decade ago, and as much story as could be crammed into 83 minutes because the people making it only had so much time within which to work, which is *honestly a fun ride* if somewhat tonally dissonant compared to what YOU were hoping for - you've decided instead to focus on what it wasn't: What You Personally Wanted. And you've decided to make your disappointment everyone else's problem instead of processing it like an adult and moving on.
I think you're boring, I think you're unkind, I think you're a whiny little bully who came onto MY POST to bitch and complain about how you're the god of what I'M allowed to enjoy. Block me, if I make you so miserable. I'm busy having fun.

Megamind vs the doom syndicate was wild - and thoughts on the 1st episode
... Every time the Syndicate said "phase two":
Seriously if you love puns. If you keep an open mind, it's cheesy and good.
Negatives...and workarounds...
it's two days post movie but Megamind swapped his flip phone for a smart phone...Maybe there was a time skip in the movie between the final battle and the new Megamind statue at the museum. I'll buy that.
Chum ! Cute nickname! I personally thought that he'd go over to the Doom Syndicate...but donut king Chum is hilarious. Megamind literally letting Chum go without a fight feels weird, but...plot? Mimicking Lone Heroes? We could get at least 3 efanfics out of that.
The whole ... megamind doesn't understand the Internet. Well. He is in prison most of the time. Minion seems to be the one talking with people and buying the equipment. Though maybe he's more a forum guy than a social media guy. Look at us. We're on Tumblr. (I certainly don't know how to format an Instagram post.)
Literally the concept of the first movie broke superhero tropes. We are still in that wheelhouse, just instead of a flying brick protagonist we have comedy gadget protagonist.
Positives:
Literally just below Camp Cretaceous in quality. (Subjective). Lands comedy and puns and laying out morals very well. It's energetic and feels sincere at points.
Nighty-Knights dialogue killed me. The syndicate each has a legit threat and a joke tied with them! Fingers crossed we get more information about Gale and Roxanne's past in the news business!
Keiko is basically an April O'Neil and Casey Jones child. (Compliment) Fascinated with news and getting the world out. Not afraid to use a baseball bat. I can't wait to see more backstory.
...Mayor Roxanne is a surprise. I like it! An excuse for her to get all the Villain news? A way to bring up tasks for the heroes to do? A hyper competent assistant that argues with Megamind? I'm in!
Anyway. I will enjoy the rest of the show!
#megamind#Peacock#megamind vs the doom syndicate#Ol' chum megamind#Roxanne ritchi#megamind rules#lazlo's lulls#Idk guys I've seen bad#This show isn't bad. Honest.

okay so i was rambling last night and unknowingly came up with hcs for how Megamind characters would hug you
Megamind: He would just stand frozen, his brain trying to process exactly *why* you're hugging him. After a few seconds, he would hug you back and give you awkward back pats. (He would secretly enjoy it)
"Um.. so youre hugging me?.."
"Yes!"
"...Okay.. well this isnt too bad.. i guess."
Minion: He would immediately hug you back, maybe even spin you around a bit. He bear hugs so he'd just be crushing you.
"cant.. breathe!.."
"IM SORRY I DIDNT MEAN TO QUEEZE YOU THAT HARD"
Roxanne: She would quickly hug you back and play with your hair as you hug her. She'd also rock you back and forth as you hug her. She'd tease you a bit as well.
"Clingy much?"
"I just wanted to hug you!"
"Hey, calm down i was just teasing you, silly."
Metroman: He would be extremely awkward, and just slowly side-hug you. Might give you head pats too. Hes rigid as hell, and just a nervous mess.
"....Citizen?.. Do you mean to hug me?.."
"Yes!"
"...I see.." *awkward head pats*

Fics of the week
Decided I would start doing a roundup of fics that I have been enjoying over the week for your enjoyment and my own.
The 12 Days of Christmas 2020, 2021 and 2022 by Her_Madjesty
Annual collections of fic based on Hero/Don John from Much Ado About Nothing which I have devoured over this last week. Most of them are AUs of one form or another. The Porco Rosso and Great Gatsby AUs were particularly *chefs kiss*
Bluebride by Teal_Individual
Roxanne may not be the first bride Megamind has taken, but she certainly is the most determined. One way or another, whether for spite or justice or love, she intends to be the last. Loosely based on Bluebeard, historical romances are my jam and the interactions between Roxanne, Megamind and Minion in this one are spot on!
a deep but dazzling darkness by Lirazel
A deep and abiding favourite from one of my favourite movies with ZERO fandom. The Vast of Night is about two teenagers manning the local switchboard and radio station one evening in a small town in Cayuga, New Mexico and there are lights in the sky... This fic is what might have come after.
The Iron Giant by ArdenDrifter
When Jamie Tartt gets a midnight call from the Manchester Municipal Police, he expects to post bail for his father again. What he finds is something quite different.
Or, Jamie Tartt discovers a thirteen-year-old half-brother no one ever warned him about. Luckily, Roy and Keeley are there to help them out.
A Ted Lasso fic that was going to be only 4 chapters (I know that feeling my friend) but has since exploded into an incredible story about family, queerness, football, being a goldfish, organised crime and so much more. An absolute masterpiece of storytelling, that keeps the story consistent and clear which when viewed through the half concussed brain of one Jamie Tartt, professional football goldfish which is astounding in and of itself.
after the storm by perennial
He watches Leonato do quick mental calculations, already knowing the final sum. The governor might prefer Claudio as a man, might want to indulge his beloved daughter’s infatuation, but at the end of the day a prince is a prince, even a bastard one, and a count is just a count. Claudio intends to marry Hero. Don John gets to her first.
Another Hero/Don John fic that every reread makes me want to eat oranges and sit in sunshine. Politics and antagonists to friends to (hopefully?) lovers! I am in heaven!
my true love gave to me also by perennial
December 2011. Michael Bublé's Christmas album has just hit shelves, holiday parties are in full swing, and it's time for Don Pedro's annual office-wide Secret Santa gift exchange.
Another Hero/Don John fic (look I like what I like and the mean gruff one falling for the soft sunshine one is enough to catch me even though I’ve only ever seen the Tennant/Tate version) Office AU this time
Dodge and Burn by jurijurious
A Dot Matrix x Megabyte AU fanfic which starts at the hunt and hurtles off down its own circuit.
I never saw the show until this year and of course there is nothing I love more than a smooth voiced villain. And this fic, enemies to lovers be still my heart! Fuck the tension in this one is incredible and you know its all going to end in flames and the voices are dead gorgeous! (and may have also inspired me to start writing my own Dot/Megabyte fic)
Let The River Run by astolat
This one just started and is still an untagged story updating every day. I love astolat’s work for how fantastically well they entertwine the politics through the story (any romance is always more interesting when political jockeying is involved). Can’t wait to see where this one goes!
#fic roundup#things bug has been reading#Much ado about nothing#game of thrones#Ted Lasso#Megamind#Reboot#the vast of night#Excellent fics well worth the read!

Character Info Sheet
Name: Minion ! Name meaning: In English, it means " a follower or underling of a powerful person, especially a servile or unimportant one, " however, in Megamind and Minion's culture, it's the name of his species. Aliases: Space Step-Mom, some random fake names for crime-related things in the past Ethnicity: Fish One picture you like best:
look at him. look at that fruity little hand. hes so fucking cute Three hcs you've never told anyone: -Technically I told yall this but just today so it counts, but Minion is venomous, the venom can induce hallucinations, severe pain, nausea, numbness, intense sweating, convulsions, paralysis, and even death in high amounts. It's comparable to lionfish venom -- survivable, but there are exceptions. -He doesn't have a set taste in music -- he listens to whatever makes his earholes happy. Mostly rock and alternative, sometimes pop, sometimes rap. It just depends on the song and the artist. -Favorite animal is, surprisingly...raccoons. He thinks they're adorable. Three things your muse likes doing in their free time: He very rarely has freetime, but he enjoys going to the aquarium and seeing the other fish there, watching horror movies, and hanging out with his lil' buddy. Eight people your muse likes / loves: Megamind, Roxanne, Solis, um..........Kurt Cobain- yeah idk hes very...picky Two things your character regrets: Letting Megamind become a villain -- it's nothing he could have helped, but he wishes he could've done more to make people love his Sir instead of fearing / hating him. Two phobias your muse has: Melanoheliophobia ( phobia of black holes, ) had ailurophobia ( fear of cats ) but overcame it with age.

I’m going to disregard my own instructions for No Megamind just for you, @masteryaddleisagilfgilf. Here y’all go:
HERE’S WHY YOU, DEAR READER, SHOULD WATCH THE HIT PIXAR (?) MOVIE MEGAMIND!!!!!!!!!
Number one: There is a blue man in there. You know other blue people that are widely enjoyed by the greater human population? THATS RIGHT! The Smurfs. If you enjoy the Smurfs, or the Blue Man Group, or Avatar (the aliens, not the magic kid) then you will LOVE megamind, because he is also blue and all blue people are the same. Number two: There’s a little piranha guy in a tank named Minion. He is far superior to the other Minions, because his master is blue and not a human and not evil (?) Number Three: The hero (villain?…..?) singlehandedly killed the Queen with his iconic line “There is no Easter bunny. There is no tooth fairy. And there is no Queen of England!” If you hate the Queen of England (and if you don’t, what are you doing here?) then you should watch Megamind because this movie murdered her <3 Number four: Roxanne is a spins wheel girlboss who slays. If you #lovewomen you NEED to come see Megamind Number five: The movie also spawned the reaction image “I love you too, random citizen!”, used by bloggers responding to anon asks everywhere Number 6: The dude’s name is Megamind. His mind is mega. He’s like, the final form of the galaxy brain image Number seven: He was bulled as a small alien child so if you don’t support this movie you support all bullying of all children everywhere. Number eight: I have it on good authority that the dialogue of this movie is pretty funny! In fact, it's kinda like the ideal hero-villian dynamic! My lovely friend @aromanticgoldfish-deactivated237 even made a little post about it, and you'll see tons of people in their comments telling her alllllllll about how Megamind's dialogue is just dandy. If you love quippy superhero movies, this is the movie for you! And of course, the most compelling of all reasons: I personally have seen the Megamind many many many times and definitely chokes love this movie very very much. I personally can vouch for gagging the greatness of this movie, and falls over, coughing out words would- would love nothing more than for… you to w-watch Me. Megam- Meg……..
So like, I know my follower count is extremely inaccurate right now but I think I might have actually passed 1,000 followers in the past few days, disregarding the couple hundred spam bots still trying to follow me. So what should I do to celebrate my maybe passing of the milestone? As always, nobody is allowed to say anything about Megamind

For: @smaug-the-greatest-of-calamities
A lil thing of softness and warmth that I finished this morning on my phone. Enjoy <3
The cabin was small and quiet, a home away from the Lair that they didn’t often take advantage of. Megamind had once told her that it was there only because he had to have a plan to run from Metro City if his status as Super Villian was brought into question, or if that status wasn’t enough to make it so no one could get to him. But that wasn’t its purpose anymore.
Now, the silence of the night was interrupted by the invisible car, as it slid into the dirt patch in front of the cabin. The clearing was lit by the moon and the headlights as the car came into view. Megamind stepped out of the driver’s seat, shushing Toothless as she slid out behind him bowging.
“You and your sister get everything inside for me, but be quiet, alright?” Toothless bowged softly and tugged Spikeless out. The twin brainbots opened the trunk and began to get everything inside the cabin. Megamind watched a moment before he shivered, a gust of wind blowing past him. He walked around the car, carefully opening the side door and lifting Roxanne from the car.
As he carried her inside, Megamind looked up at the sky, as it slowly got darker. Clouds began to cover the moon and he sighed softly. A white Christmas would be nice. He smiled softly, quickly getting inside to start the heater up before he froze.
He carefully set Roxanne down on the bed in the biggest room, where she mumbled and rolled onto her side, curling into a ball. He longed to join her but-
A blast of heat from the vent on the ground stopped him. Megamind paused before smiling softly, settling into the bed next to her. They could unpack properly in the morning. For now, they were both exhausted, and he trusted the twins to unpack what needed to be unpacked. With that, he dragged the blanket up over the two of them and slipped off to sleep.
---------------------
When he woke, it was alone. Roxanne didn’t often get up before him, but she had fallen asleep about two hours before they had gotten to the cabin, so on this occasion, it didn’t surprise him. He yawned softly, sitting up, shivering a bit. He sighed softly, wanting to stay burrowed in the blankets for awhile longer, but knowing he had to get up soon for…
He didn’t have to get up.
Megamind grinned to himself, burrowing deeper into the blankets either the twins or Roxanne must have piled on him at some point, considering he only remembered one blanket before he fell asleep.
He stayed there drifting for a good amount of time, not quite asleep, but enough that he could stay curled up in a ball warm. He wasn’t entirely sure when he felt the bed drip next to him, but the fact that he had drifted for any amount of time was a bit of a shock.
Megamind opened his eyes slowly, looking up at Roxanne quietly. She lit up seeing him awake, leaning down to kiss him lightly.
“Minion isn’t here yet, but I did try my hand at some pancakes, so…” She snickered softly as he sat up quickly, blankets caught on his head. “You have to leave the blankets here, but the twins unpacked almost everything, so you’ve got your bat slippers.” She teased softly. Megamind shook his head slightly, wiggling out of the warmth of the blankets before standing into the mentioned slippers.
Out on the table, Roxanne had set up breakfast for them, which cause Megamind to grin, stopping a moment to kiss her lightly before settling for breakfast
Spikeless hovered over his shoulder, while Toothless settled over Roxanne's, both chirping softly, signifying that they wanted to tell them something. Megamind sighed softly, lifting a hand to Spikeless, one of her claws curling around his fingers. He shifted a bit, grabbing a quick bite of his pancakes before turning to her. "What's up buttercup?"
Spikeless chirped again, before lifting his phone, a message from Minion lighting up the screen. Megamind sighed before taking it from her claw carefully before looking over the message and frowning.
"What's wrong?" Roxanne frowned, as he stood, going over to the window and pulling back the curtain. "Oh."
They couldn't see outside. All there was was pure white nothingness, no movement to show that it was still snowing, not even a glimpse of the trees past the flurry.
"We're snowed in… Minion said it might take him a little while to dig his way in, but he almost didn't see us with how much we've been buried." He laughed softly, leaning closer to the window as if that would help him see through the snow covering it. Roxanne hummed, standing and moving over to him, resting her chin on his shoulder.
"Well, he said he could dig into us, so why don't we just eat breakfast and wait. We're safe here for now, so don't worry about it." Megamind sighed softly, before nodding and turning back to breakfast.
Half way through, however, Megamind heard the heater click off suddenly. He frowned a moment, tilting his head a bit to see if it would click back on, but nothing. Roxanne looked up at him, frowning a bit. "You okay?"
"The heat turned off. It shouldn't do that." He sighed softly, shaking his head. "I can fix it in a moment, it should be fine." Roxanne frowned at him, before nodding, standing from her spot and going into the kitchen. Megamind turned, flipping in his chair to watch her. "What are you doing?"
"Making Hot Chocolate." She smiled over at him as he grinned, bouncing in his seat a bit. "Figured it might help until you fix things up."
However, even as she finished the Hot Chocolate and settled on the couch together, the room began to get colder and colder. Megamind yawned softly, which is when Roxanne took further action.
Leaving him there for a moment, she went into the bedroom, grabbing the nest he had made earlier, bringing it out into the living room and piling the blankets on top of him. Dimly, he protested, but the urge to sleep until the cold passed was a bit too high now, as he simply settled into the pocket of warmth after a second and closed his eyes.
Roxanne found her phone, updating Minion on what was happening inside, hoping that he could fix it while out there, and then managed to wiggle her way into the cocoon that was her husband, shifting and curling around him carefully. Megamind made a soft pleased sound, turning to snuggle closer, purring lowly, but didn't open his eyes. She frowned, but settled, knowing she couldn't do much else for him at that moment. The twins chirped and bowged softly, turning over and settling on top of the blankets, peering worriedly down at Megamind's figure.
It was rather hot under the blankets, but it was welcome when the outside was slowly approaching freezing. She shifted, tugging Megamind a bit closer to her, wrapping him in her arms. He purred a bit louder, snuggling closer to her, but didn't give much a reaction otherwise.
It took a good half hour before he started wake again, mumbling to himself and squirming. Roxanne sighed softly, pressing a kiss to the center of his forehead. He snickered softly, slowly opening his eyes to look up at her.
"I told Minion. He should be trying to fix it." Megamind nodded a bit, still a bit out of it, laying his head on her shoulder. She smiled softly, shifting a bit. "Unfortunately our hot chocolate went cold." This brought a bigger reaction, as he whined and opened his eyes again to pout up at her. Roxanne snickered softly at how betrayed he looked, squishing him closer to her side. "I'll make us more, promise."
Just then, the door was pushed open, Minion forcing his way in past the snow and shoving the door shut again. The cabin rattled a moment before he sighed, shivering a bit himself. "Hello Mrs. Ritchi." She smiled up at him, and Megamind lifted his head, trilling something at him that she couldn't decipher. Minion, however, understood, answering in his own trilling chirp. Megamind nodded and settled back down, staring up at Roxanne quietly.
"I'll go fix the heater real quick. It should be an easy fix." Roxanne nodded, watching him disappear into one of the rooms. She looked back down at Megamind, who grinned at her, pressing a kiss to her shoulder, the only place he could currently reach without having to move. She laughed softly, lifting his head a bit as he listened to the faint noise of Minion in the other room. She worried about him in this weather, but he had his own heater in his suit, so she figured he was alright.
Soon enough, he got the heater working again, as Megamind cheered softly. He didn't move, not quite yet. It was still cold outside their little cocoon of warmth. Minion moved back inside the living room, settling on his own couch next to their, reinforced so his suit didn't crush it.
"Wanna watch hallmark movies?" He asked, as if he wasn't just going to put them on anyways, seeing as he controlled the remote.
Roxanne hummed, shifting a bit. "There's this one where a woman goes out to Africa after her husband told her he didn't love her anymore, and she healed herself with a baby elephant." Minion stared at her, before turning to the TV.
"That sounds like a trip, I wanna watch that." Megamind muttered, turning himself to be able to see, smiling softly.
"We're watching it Sir." Megamind grinned and settled into Roxanne's shoulder as Minion search Netflix for the movie.
Roxanne hummed, settling back against the couch, smiling. She felt safe here, warm and comfortable in the family she had built over the last couple years.. She wouldn't even complain when they inevitably conspired against her to throw her into the snow later.

Hello, I binged a bunch of your Megamind fics last night (best mistake of my life 🥲). But since I'm not an old Megamind fan, or even an old fan of yours, I don't really know how did you come up with the bird-like singsong language headcanon and not sure where to look for answers either. Megamind with gills headcanon is pretty intuitive, but this? Tell me more, please ~
Thank you for your work. Megamind is a masterpiece, but even DreamWorks couldn't begin to explore all the implications of the story.
Omg I love this question, thank you for asking! And I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed my writing 💙👽💙 I hope you can nap today!
The short explanation is simply that the way I see it, if Megamind's species can live underwater, the language spoken in his culture of origin cannot work the same way our languages do. The primary mechanics of human languages, air flowing out through our mouths, will not work for an aquatic species unless their language is bubbles. So I needed something else, and...I like birds a lot. When I wrote Swansong (I think Swansong was my first fic in which Megamind speaks any Punktsyk), I honestly wasn't thinking about it very much, except "birds whistle and chirp, and so do dolphins and whales, so Megamind sounds like birds and dolphins and whales."
The long explanation of how I got to the fully-developed headcanon for his language as I currently write it is below:
The long explanation is that Megamind's specific combination of birdsong+whalesong was developed over a long period of time. I like birds a LOT, lol. I've also always loved the idea of a Megamind who looks more or less human-shaped, but is otherwise very very alien. So (years & years before I started writing him with gills) I wrote him as making some bird-like sounds very early on in my writing. 2012, 2013 or so, I think. I also wrote him mentioning a syrinx, which is a vocal structure some birds have. Just for fun, because at that time I was avoiding writing very much about his homeworld. And I wrote Swansong, which...as far as I know is the first appearance of Megamind with gills, so I didn't have much inspiration other than "I like birds" lmao. But I needed him to speak to Minion underwater, and I have no idea how Minion manages aquatic English, so I gave Megamind a different voice and leaned into those bird noises I had mentioned in passing before, in other stories.
Aaaand then I got depression and didn't publish anything for a couple years... and THEN I got on new meds and came roaring back to life with new inspiration, thinking, Fuck it! We've had no new information in years! I'm gonna do what I want! Gills! A new language! Let's go let's go let's go!
First, I needed a reason for Megamind to actually be fully fluent in his parents' language, so I gave Minion inherited memories. With the way I was writing Minion's biology, it made sense that his species might be able to do something like that. I thought, okay, Minion lives in an orb underwater, how long would it have taken him to learn any human languages? So Megamind is fully fluent in his parents' language because Minion could really ONLY speak that for a long time.
And THEN I sat down and started trying to actually figure out the language itself. I had already had the thought (several times, over the years) that if those bird noises I gave him are natural for him, there was no reason any of the languages on Megamind's homeworld would sound even remotely human. I was really sad about this, because I had hoped to write something Roxanne could eventually learn to speak, but...it just wouldn't work in my head. I was writing Dive and fully committing to Megamind as a fish-man, so his language needed to make equal sense in water and air, and for that, it needed to be something truly alien.
Like I said, I had written him singing already. This was just his language from Swansong, but more developed. I wanted a deeper song for him, too, like a whale, so I wrote long chambers along his spine, to run air back and forth and sing the emotion underlying the birdsong "words." I also gave him a kind of rolling "vocal loop" to keep air flowing through his syrinx without letting go of it through his nose or mouth, so he can sing underwater as well as in air. I think he probably also has structures he can work behind his nose, for clicking. He can make a LOT of noises, lol.
If I'm remembering correctly, I was still thinking maybe he had a different language out of the water while I was writing Dive. It wasn't until a couple months later when I wrote Wake Your Sleepy Soul that I decided it was a single language. I imagine it sounds a bit different underwater than in air, but the language itself is the same.
There is more I can tell you about Megamind's voice, but I think that's everything for why I wrote his language the way I do! and I must sleep. Thank you again!! If you (or anyone else reading this) have any other questions, please ask away, I LOVE talking about this stuff.
(Oh and go watch Megamind Rules if you haven't seen it yet! I think it is actually very cute and earnest. Wonderful show for kids, I really enjoyed it and hope they release the second half soon.)

oh PLEASE tell me about the persona 5 megamind au
everyone who sends me asks abt the nonsense i post abt ....... i have feelings 4 u
OKAY SO its a bit unorganized bc i never rlly sat down and worked out the details, its mostly just 4 fun bc i like the movie and i thought itd b funny LOL
-obviously goro akechi is megamind.,,, tho instead of being blue he is just goro akechi (maybe w loki's horns or smth to make him look more alien) and when hes disguised as 'bernard' he just looks like his disguise from the jazz club where u ruffle up his hair n put glasses on him LOL. also he still uses the name bernard bc i think thats funny
-akira is roxanne :3c ambitious reporter who v much enjoys the banter between them every time he gets kidnapped hehe and is sooo enamored w bernard bc hes the only other person who seems so invested in the cruel detective prince despite his Villainous Tendencies
-ryuji is hal (ryuji baby im so sorry) but not in like a 'nice guy' kinda way just in that hes the lazy bro whos always hangin around akira.,, but i love ryuji so rather than going mad w power after getting rejected like some kind of dweeb its more of a persona 4 situation where his concern for akiras safety and his jealousy of he and goros (or bernards as far he knows) relationship - it all combines and his shadow self takes over, so instead of being consciously a douche he is just consumed by forces beyond his control 😔😔 and obv snaps out of it after they beat his ass LOL
-souji is metro man lmaoo i think it fits that hed b like a role model n an inspiration to the p5 characters but also opt out of the fighting b4 it can consume him and become his entire life bc soujis character already struggles w feeling like hes living his entire life for other ppl and not for himself :/
-im not entirely sure abt minion.,, i feel like sumire fits better but i didnt play royal n havent watched the entire playthrough so idk her that well ..,, so in my heart minion is ann <33 i rlly like the hc that goro and ann are friends Anyway n i feel like the petty catty megamind/minion dynamic suits them well hehehe
so basically the gist of it is that akira is repeatedly kidnapped by Villainous Detective Prince Goro Akechi and rescued every time by local hunk and hero souji seta, who fakes his own death to get out of the public eye. in the aftermath of that akechi takes over the city but quickly grows bored w the lack of challenge.,, he and his assistant ann decide that ryuji (while kind of boneheaded) has potential to b strong and should b crafted into his New Rival !! but that backfires, as trying to motivate him through the promise of earning akiras interest only drives his jealousy to the point of being all consuming (this is when his shadow self takes the reigns).
akechi accidentally bumps into akira just like in the movie where he panics and disguises himself ( tho i think rather than freezedrying some poor dude its a magic thing idk bc i think its funny if that why his disguise sucks so hard its just bc he was flustered and in a hurry not to b caught so all he could manage was no horns messier hair big glasses) and akira talks 2 him abt how awful it is that soujis gone and that he never even Disliked akechi in fact hed grown rather fond of him after all their flirty rapport and bernard (akechi) has 2 b like mmhmm yeah that guy sucks. and hes caught between sounding indignant bc his pride is wounded and sounding all too genuine in talking abt how much he hates goro akechi LOL😖
ummm they get closer over time trying 2 pinpoint where akechis Evil Lair might be and then they 100% still have that sad restaurant scene where akechis disguise gets all fucked up (i like to think its bc he got so flustered by being kissed that his brain short circuited and the spell dropped for a sec) and akira does the whole 'wtf why did you lie to me why did u string me along was this all to humiliate me?? or worse was this all genuine to you? did u ever think i could love someone like you??' and walks home in the rain especially sad bc hed confessed that hed had feelings for akechi prior to soujis death so now it just feels like its being thrown back in his face Twice smh
akira still gets snatched up by shadow ryuji and cant do anything abt it but not bc its helpless its bc he doesnt wanna hurt his best friend ): he knows thats not him!!! but tldr goro shows up and ryuji gets bonked around bc akira comes 2 goros aid just 2 subdue him not 2 actually injure him! and then he comes back 2 himself and is so sorry and its ok they r besties again :) and goro and akira kiss on the mouth maybe

This line is very important to my read of Megamind as a character. I think that the whole “I want to create a new superhero because it’s exciting and mentally stimulating for me to fight against a superhero” is PART of Megamind’s motivation for creating Titan, but it’s not the end of the story. It’s just the part Megamind is most comfortable with expressing to Minion.
Megamind is the one that’s gonna ‘go down’ in the upcoming battle. The whole plan, even if Megamind never said so explicitly until this scene, is based on him once again losing and getting beaten up and thrown in jail.
And right here, Megamind is in the lowest point of his entire life. He lost Metro-Man already - but now he also lost Roxanne and Minion. Megamind is now lonelier than he’s ever been and he knows he’s at fault for all these (you might say he sees himself as a villain). And right here, Megamind is thrilled by the part of his scheme that involves him losing. Megamind’s self-loathing has turned him self-destructive.
And you can see these kinda instincts elsewhere. In his SECOND lowest point, after reuniting Metro Man, his instinct is to throw himself in jail. It’s even kinda reflected in his ‘turn to villainy’ as a child. Vandalizing the ‘Shool’ with that blue explosion was an obviously bad idea and Tiny Megamind knew it. But he just went like, ‘screw the long-term consequences for myself, becoming a social pariah is an inevitability for me, so I might as well enjoy it!”.
On some level, Megamind was always aware that he lives in a world in which bad guys always lose, and there was something kinda... freeing about that for him. If his schemes are always foiled, it means he can indulges in whatever over-the-top acts of evil that he likes but he’ll be stopped before he ever gets to hurt anyone. And it means that it truly does not matter what he does to hurt his own future, cause he was gonna lose regardless. And sometimes.... he just really really wants to lose.
